About

Wes and Lindsey

So you want to know more about me huh? Well to start off, you can see me pictured above along with my girlfriend Lindsey. We are both Horticulture students attending Tarleton State University. I've had an interest in plants since a very young age and I credit my Granny with giving me that interest. She would be working out in her gardens and I would always want to help (or get in the way is more like it!).

She supplied me with a knowledge base that I still work off of today. My named cultivar Dorothy Simmons is named in her honor. Even today she still continues to teach me new things. We still enjoy having long discussions about plants. As for the daylily side of me, I started working with them when I was 15 years old. So with that said, I've had about 8 years of experience working with daylilies. I'm a member of the American Hemerocallis Society and the Daylily Growers of Dallas. My breeding goals deal primarily with the lavender colors. I breed for bright, clear color, a watermark eye, white edges, and good plant habit overall. I prefer plants with large, wide, and rounded flowers. I also work a little bit with red colors and gold edges, but the lavenders are my primary project. I should also mention that I only breed with diploids. I don't have any moral objection to the tetraploids, I personally just prefer the dips. It's what I started out with. I plan on working with daylilies for a long time to come!
